Editing Existing Application Shortcuts

Being quite of shortcuts geek here, it's very essential to know how to change those pre-defined shortcuts into more suitable shortcut. And to our surprise, Mac provides it for us.

There is one shortcut that makes me feel sick whenever I tried to use it, i.e. Select Next Tab on Safari. To perform this action, you will need at least two hands; ] is the troublesome shortcut I mentioned above.

I remember last time I've written about how to create keyboard shortcut which very much resembles the trick I'd like to talk about this time.

Let's see how to do it..

Open Keyboard & Mouse Preferences Pane
Go to your Apple Menu bar, click on Preferences and then choose Keyboard & Mouse (Menu bar ▸ Preferences ▸ Keyboard & Mouse). Then, click on the tab named Keyboard Shortcuts.

Note Down the Name of the Shortcut
For example, here I want to change the shortcut for Safari - Select Next Tab. Therefore, the Menu Title will be Select Next Tab. You can also see that the shortcut is initially }.

Change Existing Shortcut
Now, you should go back to your Keyboard & Mouse Preferences Pane and click on the [+] button near left-corner of the pane. Choosing Application, Filling the Menu Title, Assigning Keyboard Shortcut, and Confirming the action consecutively will lead you to the end of your journey to change keyboard shortcut. Not to forget relaunching your application (for this case, Safari) for the change to take effect.
